Educational Philosophy
I
believe the purpose of education is to develop the human mind, so that children
are able to expand their horizon, and possibly their world. Education provides
an outlet, it takes the small bubble you’re in and adds more to it so that you
are able to relate to others from different walk of life. Through education
student’s foundations are laid allowing their minds to develop critical problem
solving skills by gaining understanding of the importance of reading, writing,
and even math. Many students argue, “What’s the purpose of math?” The purpose
of each subject is unique to our lives as we grow older, and math is directly
connected to the banking system as well as our taxes.
Through
the development of building these academic core values students gain access to
resources that are in their favor. These resources allow students to learn real
life problem solving. As they volunteer within their community and summarize a
report of their knowledge that they were able to gain back to their peers as
well as teachers. Gaining knowledge is
the purpose of education because after students have gained the knowledge they
need to face the world they will live in and through these opportunities and
more students will gain the adequate knowledge of how to will face life without
feeling like a fish out of water. I believe the purpose of education is to
expand on student’s understanding of things that are around them and to help develop
logical ways to be creative when it comes to problem solving.
I believe
the purpose of school is a safe environment that students are able to find
their identity, get sense of who they are, who they want to be, and to find
their learning style. School is there to find what is unique about you away
from your family, and to build ambition that have the ability to make your
dreams fly. The school system
challenges students to accept or debate others perspective that they either
agree or disagree with. School is a safe ground to learn about the history of
America, the struggle each group of people went through to gain their freedom,
as well as draft treaties. History has shaped our world, and through school’s
history is learned so that students are able to pinpoint in what forms might
this very history repeat itself. The school system also teaches about constitutional
rights, values, and freedom of religion and it’s the reason so many people
decided to make America their home.
The
purpose of school is to teach students how to be open, network, and how society
has a lot to do with the connection of people. Society plays a big role in
social media, and todays schools are teaching the importance of technology and
positive along with negative notions connected to social media. Schools are no
longer stuck in history, but is moving forward instilling the correct tools for
students, and giving them a brighter view of tomorrow.
Today
society views schools as a place to send kids so the parents can have some
alone time; however, as educators we view schools as a playground to allow
students the ability to explore their vision, their talents in the arts, and to
challenge them in academics. School is a place that provides much more than I
can describe, and to do so I would have to write a book.
“My
purpose as a teacher”
As a
future teacher my purpose it to create a safe community where students can
define themselves without getting judged or looked at in a disrespectful way.
My purpose is to make learning fun especially the subjects I feel passionate enough
to teach. Many students today lack the ability to enjoy reading due to the
school system’s dictatorship, and censorship. I feel I would push the
boundaries, and I’d be that one teacher that smuggles books for students who
are passionate about a certain genre.
I
believe in order to learn students must enjoy what they are learning, therefore
I want my students to read novels, plays, and books. I want them to enjoy their
own genres or books of choice, not what I enjoy or what the school system requires
me to teach. If you really look at it from my perspective, you will see that
education has to grab the student’s mind and heart so they can learn it to the
fullest and go beyond what’s underneath the surface. You come to a point where
you question yourself as to why students must read Shakespeare plays if they
are not enjoying it, why can’t they read different plays? Through this mindset
I feel empowered and confident enough to respect their interest, as well as to
treat all equally without judgments of any sort.
I view
the nature of learning as humans will or need to learn and they will approach
that mindset when they are ready. Anything before that which has to do with
push or force isn’t going to produce any outcome. The student needs to be
willing and open about education and the school system as those who strive to
teach. I will approach the community by setting goals and voicing my ambition
towards educating young students. I also believe that putting together events
such as winter carnivals. Winter carnival would pull the community members into
the school, and from that allow an open dialog about education and parent
awareness.
