Learning about the different educational philosophies, and reading some of
my classmate’s educational philosophies had helped me shape my understanding of
education philosophies better. This lesson had sucked in my head to the point
where I start overthinking and analyzing the educational philosophy that every
teacher uses or believe in even they don’t use it due to the sharp school
methods or system that they have to work with. And no I don’t agree with the
anyone who says that we should only prepare teachers for the system that
awaits, because if there only one thing I’ve learned about this topic is that
every teacher believe in different philosophy and it’s not fair to prepare all
teachers to teach the philosophy that the system they work with believe in. If we prepare all teacher for the system that
awaits them, it will be like creating clone of teachers which will create a
lack of differentness and lack of creative work, which also make all teacher
use one pattern or one philosophy.
Educational philosophies help
teachers identify themselves as a teacher, it helps them know the role they
want to play as individual unique teacher. Teaching philosophy gives every
teacher its own voice where they are able to express their teaching methods, and
allows them to be different and creative. And yes there’s a huge danger in not
talking about educational philosophy because every teacher has to have their
own philosophy before they start teaching. Teachers can change their philosophies
after a while depending on the school their working at or the students they are
teaching, or even due to the subject they are teaching, but a teacher can’t
start working without having a philosophy because they will fall for the school
systems method philosophy instead of being open minded and observing the different
philosophies that are out there.
This lesson has helped me
understand all my teachers teaching philosophies and made my question myself to
why does this teacher using this philosophy instead of the all different one,
and it helped me write my own educational philosophy to which helped me find a
voice as a teacher. It hurts to know that some of the teachers don’t have the
ability to use their own teaching philosophy due to the school system they work
for, and as a educators we need to stand against that dictatorship act if we
are experiencing it no matter what school we are working for or how much are we
getting paid.
